Spring Skill Development Practices

For players that are unable to commit to a full season of practices and tournaments or for players that we are unable to offer a spot on a team after tryouts, skills-only practices are a great option to help players develop their game. These are age and skill-based workouts in which any player from 2nd-11th grade can participate. There will be 10 practices and each practice will last one hour. Skills will take place at the West Warwick Civic Center on Mondays from 7:00-8:00pm beginning March 23rd. Times will be finalized approximately a week before the first practice. Players will receive a RI Magic t-shirt at the conclusion of the program.

At our skills practices, we teach the same 6 concepts each week, utilizing age and skill appropriate drills to teach those concepts. Drills are varied each week. The concepts that are taught every session are:

1. Ball Handling

2. Footwork/Offensive Moves

3. Passing

4. Player to Player defense

5. Rebounding

6. Shooting

Finally, our skills practices end with 3v3

One of our coaches, Dr. Tim Swenson, is a physical therapist that works with players on injury recovery, prevention and also improving strength and conditioning. The video above explains the movement skills sessions that Dr. Tim started in 2024 and will be continuing in the upcoming spring 2026 season. We are now offering this program to skills participants as well for a fee of $225 for the season (10 sessions).

Movement skills sessions can be added to the skills program for a discounted fee of $350 total. (5th-11th graders only)
