What is the Hoop Group Academic League (HGAL)?

The HGAL is a highly competitive basketball league operated by Hoop Group. It provides teams with opportunities to compete against strong programs at premier venues while giving players valuable exposure.

 

Why is the Magic joining the Hoop Group circuit?

Hoop Group’s emphasis on player development, high-level competition, and exposure closely aligns with the Magic’s mission. Joining the circuit will create additional opportunities for our players to grow, compete, and be evaluated.

 

Which Magic teams will participate?

Our top 9th, 10th and varsity teams will participate in the HGAL.

Does every high school player automatically participate?

Players must try out and be selected for an HGAL team. Our coaches and directors will evaluate each player and place them in the environment that best supports their development.

Where are the games played?

HGAL events are held at high-quality venues throughout the region. Specific locations and schedules will be shared with participating families once they are finalized.

Will participation require additional travel?

Yes. Families should expect some regional travel for HGAL events. We will provide schedules and travel information as early as possible so families can plan accordingly.

Will there be additional costs?

Any team-specific costs associated with HGAL participation will be clearly communicated to families before they accept a roster position.

Will Magic teams still participate in other tournaments?

Yes. Our overall schedule may also include additional tournaments. Each team’s schedule will be designed to provide the right combination of development, competition, and exposure.
