Concepts Required for First Tournament
Information to be prepared for your first tournament
-
Know the Rules! You can find them at: https://zerogravitybasketball.com/event/rules-eligibility/
-
You have 3+ practices before your first game, depending on your first tournament. That is at least 4.5 hours of practice time. Below is the bare minimum of what concepts should be taught before for your first tournament. Obviously, as the season progresses, you should be reviewing what you have taught and also adding new plays/concepts each week.
5th grade and under
-

General Information
-
Game plan: I liked to use the first tournament as 3 practices and play kids closer to equal and mix up rotations as well to see what worked best. I will also try a couple of different defenses, especially with older teams to see what they play better.
-
Rotations: I also like to have my rotations prepared beforehand, especially when I coached alone. This ensures everyone gets their minutes and is one less thing to worry about during the game.
Point of Emphasis
These should be the main focuses all season, but especially the first tournament because that sets the tone for the season. Please hold every player accountable to the concepts below, all of which the player can control and has nothing to do with talent or skill.
-
Effort
-
Attitude
-
Shot Selection
-
Being a good, positive teammate
