Spring 2023 Season Information

OVERVIEW

Our spring season begins in March and runs no later than the second week of June. We offer a boy’s program for players in grades 2 through 12 and girl’s grades 6 through 10. Tryouts are open to all players of varying skill levels and playing experience.

PRACTICE

Teams will practice once a week for approximately 2 hours. The first half of that practice will focus on individual skill development. We will teach and reinforce the main basketball concepts, utilizing drills that build on each other throughout the season. The second half of practice will focus on the team concepts of basketball, preparing players and teams for their games. Most teams will practice at the West Warwick Civic Center, but we also use other venues located in the central part of the state. The day and times of practices are finalized approximately one week before the season begins.

TOURNAMENTS

Teams will begin tournament play at the end of March or the beginning of April and all teams will play in 7 tournaments. For most teams, tournaments will be in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

FINANCES

The cost of the season is $699.

UNIFORMS

The uniform package is $90. The uniform package includes shorts and a reversible game jersey as well as a reversible practice jersey and a shooting shirt which is worn while warming up for games.

EXTENDED SPRING SEASON

8th Grade:

The Rhode Island Magic has attended the AAU 14u/8th-grade Nationals for the past 6 years the event has been held. This year, we plan to have our top two 8th-grade teams attend this outstanding and memorable event held in July in Orlando, Florida at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. Details will be forthcoming at the beginning of the spring season, once rosters are finalized.

High School Teams:

Our top 9th, 10th, and varsity high school teams will play through the end of July in local and regional tournaments. These teams will also practice two times a week for the majority of the spring season. Details will be forthcoming at the beginning of the spring season.

Skill Development

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PRACTICES

For players that are unable to commit to a full season of practices and tournaments or for players that we are unable to offer a spot on a team after tryouts, skills-only practices are a great option to help players develop their game. These are age-based workouts in which any player from 3rd-11th grade can participate. There will be approximately 11 practices. Skills practice will last 1 hour. Players will receive a RI Magic t-shirt.

FINANCES

The cost for skills is $200.
