Spring 2021 Season Information
The Magic had an extremely successful fall season in which we had 19 teams compete in 4 tournaments and practice for two months without any COVID outbreaks or even one case traced to the Magic. We are very excited to be back playing basketball again this spring! All CDC and local guidelines are being followed as well as additional layers of safety protocols we enacted to ensure the utmost safety of our players, coaches and families. Below are the tentative plans for our spring season.
Our spring season begins the week of March 29th and runs no later than the second to third week of June. We offer a boys' and girls' program for players in grades 3 through 12 and tryouts are open to all players of varying skill levels and playing experience.
We will practice once a week for 2 hours. Approximately the first half of that practice will focus on individual skill development. We will teach and reinforce the main basketball concepts, utilizing drills that build on each other throughout the season. The second half of practice will focus on the team concepts of basketball, preparing players and teams for their games. Practices will take place at the West Warwick Civic Center. Day and times of practices are finalized approximately a week before the season begins.
Most teams will begin tournament play the weekend of April 10th and 11th. We plan to play 7 tournaments and the goal is that the majority of those tournaments will be in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The structure of those tournaments will be finalized as we get closer to the season, but the plan is all tournaments will be a minimum of three games with the potential for a fourth game. Once that information is finalized, that will be shared with parents.
The cost of the season is $699.
If you need a uniform package, it is $85. The uniform package includes reversible shorts and game jerseys as well as a reversible practice jersey and a shooting shirt which is worn while warming up for games. We have not changed our uniform style in over three years, therefore if your child’s uniform still fits, it is not necessary to purchase a new one. Please note this will likely be the last season we use this style of game shorts and jersey, as they have been discontinued.
ZERO GRAVITY PRIME (Nationals) 8th & 9th GRADE TEAMS
The Rhode Island Magic have attended 8th grade Nationals, held at ESPN Wide World of Sports where the NBA played last season, for the past 4 years. Last year, due to the pandemic, that event was cancelled. This year, we plan to have both our top 8th and 9th grade teams attend this outstanding and memorable event. The 8th grade event will take place from July 5th-7th and 9th grade will be from July 8th-11th. More details will be forthcoming at the beginning of the season.
ZGXL 10th GRADE TEAM
Our top 10th grade team has been invited and accepted an invitation to ZGXL. This exposure circuit is based out of the Greater Boston Area and features high school teams with the best talent the East Coast has to offer. The Spring 2021 season will be a 4 Stop circuit, playing games in Boston, Mohegan Sun in Ct, Atlantic City and concluding July 8th-11th at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.

Skill Development Option
For players that are unable to commit to a full season of practices and tournaments or for players that we are unable to offer a
spot on a team after tryouts, skills-only practices are an option. These are age-based workouts in which any player from 3rd-12th grade can participate. There will be approximately 12 practices. Skills practices day/time TBD. The skills practice will last approximately 1 hour. Participants will stay with the same coach and group of players each week for the entire season. Practices will take place at the West Warwick Civic Center. Players will receive a RI Magic t-shirt.
The cost for skills is $200.
